The Downfall of Peter
We who are called Wesleyans believe that salvation is predicated on obiedence. A classic example of failure to odediently follow is seen in Peter's denial! Three factors contributed to the downward steps in that tragic moment in Peter's life.

  1. Pride: He was overconfident. He boldly proclaimed that he would never desert the Lord. In the process he set himself up for a fall. [Mark 14:29]
  2. Carelessness: He had wrong priorities. At the critical moment when he should have been alert, vigilant and prayerful he was fast asleep. [Mark 14:37]
  3. Prayerlessness: He neglected prayer for you see that garden prayer meeting wasn't merely for Jesus sake. Peter needed strength too if he would adequately handle the situation about to confront him. Instead of watching he was sleeping. [Mark 14:38]
When you examine these three factors is it any wonder Peter denied the Lord? Let us leard a lesson from Peter's tragedy and lean more heavily on Jesus.
